Flame-resistant or FR fabrics are designed to be difficult to ignite, burn more slowly than other fabrics, and self-extinguish after the heat source is removed.
Why is there such a big price difference for some FR gear?
Turns out that not all things are created equal. There is 2 ways of achieving FR fabric.
Inherent FR
This fabric is naturally flame-resistant and doesn't require any additional treatment. The fabric's structure is non-flammable, so the protection is woven into the fabric and won't wash out.
Treated FR
The fabric is made flame-resistant through a chemical treatment applied during manufacturing. The chemicals bond with the fabric's polymer chain, making it flame-resistant for a limited number of washes.
So what should I buy?
While it depends on your situation and work, we would recommend Inherent as it will give you longer lasting and a higher level of protection.
